“Needed every bit of it”- Mookie Betts homers twice sealing game against Marlins

Mookie Betts
On Friday night, a haphazard pitching strategy and weak defence at crucial situations nearly lost the Dodgers the game. However, Mookie Betts‘ crucial performance saved them in the end. Mookie Betts’ two home runs, four hits, and four RBIs helped the Dodgers defeat the Miami Marlins 10-6 in a game marked by six lead changes, three ties, and 10 innings. “Unbelievable,” manager Dave Roberts said. “It was just such a great performance. We needed every bit of it.”
In the top of the seventh, with the Dodgers behind 2-1, Betts smashed a two-run home run to help them overcome their first deficit. After the Dodgers’ dubious choice to hand over a one-run lead to Phil Bickford backfired, Mookie Betts once more saved the day with a game-tying home run that hooked just inside the left-field foul pole in the top of the ninth.
After Justin Turner’s RBI single later in the ninth inning, the Dodgers were unable to hold onto their lead, but Mookie Betts came through again in the 10th, regaining the lead for his team with an RBI double that helped spark a five-run rally that effectively ended the game.
“I just want to win,” said Betts, who surpassed Alfonso Soriano for the most multi-homer games in a major league season with his 20th career game from the leadoff spot. “It doesn’t matter where we are in the standings. I just show up every day and I want to win. So I just do everything I can to help the team.”

The game had almost slipped from the Dodgers until Mookie Betts’ magic came into play

After Mookie Betts tied the score at 4-4 in the top of the ninth inning with his second home run of the game against Tanner Scott, the game had completely changed. In the ninth inning of a game that was tied 4-4, Scott walked twice, loading the bases. Scott, Mattingly’s closer, was removed after he failed to make his sixth save of the year. The Dodgers regained the lead after Justin Turner’s RBI base hit off Cole Sulser.
Interestingly, Roberts chose David Price for the save opportunity in the bottom of the ninth with a one-run lead. The Marlins once more knotted the score after Burdick homered off Price. The Dodgers were able to hold off the Marlins to force extra innings despite the two Turners making two straight errors that opened the way for them.
Mookie’s charm once more worked in the tenth. He beat Andrew Nardi with an RBI double to left field, giving the Dodgers a 6-5 advantage. It became 8-5 after RBI hits from Trea Turner and Freeman. Max Muncy’s two-out, two-run double made the game quite easy to win. The Dodgers are now 4-0 this season against the Marlins after their 10-6 victory.
