The 2023 MLB season is proving to be a disastrous one so far for the New York Mets. The franchise so far has been unable to back up its season with consistent performances. The team had another disappointing outing on Friday night as they lost 14-7 to the Pittsburgh Pirates. This turned out to be their seventh straight loss, having been swept by the Braves and the Blue Jays before.
Such shaky performances are sure to agitate a few fans. As their team was getting thrashed away by the Pirates, there were scenes of fights between the two sets of fans in the stadium. In a video that has gone viral, people can be spotted hitting, pushing, and shoving each other. The reason why the fight took off in the first place remains to be answered.
The history of the fight between these two teams is not unknown. Last year, Mets’ superstar Pete Alonso was hit-by-pitch. This resulted in angry reactions from the slugger who exchanged a few words with the pitcher. Pretty soon, the benches were cleared. The umpires later warned the two teams. However, this incident in the stands was quickly resolved by the security team.
Is the season over already for the New York Mets?

Things are not working out well for the NY Mets. A team that was labeled as one of the favorites to go all the way has stumbled down the track. After being swept by the Blue Jays, the Mets looked to have been back in their form against the Braves. In the three-game series with their AL East rivals, they had a 3+ run lead in every game.
What happened? They failed to control the game. The New York-based side gave up their lead in all three games and was subjected to a harsh walk-off defeat on Thursday night. Their bullpen consisting of two veterans of the game, Max Scherzer and Justin Verlander, has failed to click. Their offense on the other hand has been under fire apart from Pete Alonso.
The team has now been dealt with another major blow. Inform slugger Pete Alonso is expected to be out for three-four weeks as a result of a bone bruise and sprain on left wrist. With him out for this long, this could be the final nail in the coffin for the 2023 NY Mets. Manager Buck Showalter has been facing a lot of criticism over his tactics. Questions about his future at the Mets are now sparking up.
