On Thursday, former USA Secretary of State Henry Kissinger passed away at the age of 100. Several tributes soon started flooding in his remembrance. The baseball side, the New York Yankees were among them who honored him. However, fans have been unhappy regarding it.
In the statement released by the team, they expressed their sorrow and informed that they are “profoundly saddened” by his passing. The franchise also labeled him as a “lifelong‘ friend of the organization.
During the 2012 Yankees Magazine, Kissinger claimed to have started watching baseball and attending Yankee games at their old stadium in 1938 after moving away from Germany. The diplomat would serve as the national advisor and work as the secretary of state during Richard Nixon‘s administration and also won a Nobel Peace Prize for his work during his tenure.
However, a majority of baseball fans have never welcomed him to the sport. His actions against Cambodia, Chile, Bangladesh, and beyond were condemned by many people. Some of them would even label him as a war criminal. Nonetheless, he was good friends with Yankees owner George Steinbrenner and often watched games along with him.
