If there is one player who is going under the radar this MLB season, then it’s Ronald Acuna Jr. The Atlanta Braves star has lit up the season with his awesome performances and has placed himself as a heavy favorite for the National League MVP. On Tuesday against the Cleveland Guardians, he scripted another historical record.

Acuna has been known throughout the league for his home-run hitting and stealing bases ability. In the matchup against the Guardians, he stole another base in the third inning. By doing so, he scripted a historic feat. This turned out to be the 13th straight game where he had recorded a home run or stolen a base. He broke the record of 12 straight games set by Bert Campaneris of the Oakland Athletics in 1969.

As per official records, Campaneris achieved this feat by just stealing bases. So what Acuna Jr. has done is something extraordinary. To sum up his historic season, he also became the first AL/NL player to collect 20 home runs, 40 stolen bases, and record 50 RBIs before the All-Star game in July. The night, though, did not end as he wanted as the Guardians walked it off to win the game 6-5.

To say Ronald Acuna Jr. has been an important member in the Braves’ recent history will be an understatement. The 25-year-old is playing a key part in the Braves season so far. Their record of 57-28 is currently the best in the whole of MLB, even surpassing the Tampa Bay Rays.

This leads to an important question: does Acuna Jr have the NL MVP award in the bag? He has been one of the most consistent players this year, delivering time and again when it mattered. With the ways things are going in the National League, it would take a monumental effort to topple Acuna and Braves from the top.

As the name suggests, the MVP award is given to the most valuable player. While Pete Alonso leads the NL charts for the most home runs, his team is having a miserable season. As per stats from ESPN, Acuna Jr. is currently batting with an average of .337 along with 21 home runs and 54 runs cashed in.

These performances has led to another question. Could Acuna Jr become the first player to achieve the highly incredible feat of 40/60 (40 HRs/60 SB). With more than half a season remaining, this is very likely given he stays fit and does not have a slipup in the future.
