“Two sluggers absolutely mashed”: Yordan Alvarez, Kyle Schwarber take home June’s Players of the Month

Chevrolet presented June’s player of the month award who other than the two first-class sluggers of MLB, Yordan Alvarez and Kyle Schwarber.

On Saturday, the America League and the National League named their players of the month for June 2022. Houston Astros star Yordan Alvarez was entitled with American League’s Player of the Month and Philadelphia Phillies’ outfielder Kyle Schwarber was entitled with National League’s Player of the Month.

Unbelievably this award marks Kyle Schwarber’s second straight year winning June’s National League Player of the Month award. Last year Schwarber was playing with the Nationals where he powered 17 home runs in June to win the award. After Dominic Brown won it in May 2013, Kyle Schwarber was the first Phillies to win the award.

Whereas Yordan Alvarez, a three-time rookie of the year award winner got his first Player of the Month. He won it after Kyle Tucker, who won it in October 2021.

Yordan Alvarez, who leads baseball with a 1.070 OPS, batted .418 in June with nine home runs and 28 RBIs with the same number of walks (13) as strikeouts. On the season, Alvarez has had a tremendous one, second in baseball in home runs (23), fifth in RBIs (56) and first in slugging (.658). Worth every bit.

Alvarez was named June’s first AL Player of the Week when he slashed .565/.630/1.217 with four home runs, eight RBIs, two walks and only one strikeout in the first week of June.

Kyle Schwarber picked up the pace in the month of June when teammate, Bryce Harper had to stay out due to injury, a broken thumb, Schwarber has definitely picked up the load for the Philadelphia Phillies offence. This was his first year with the Phillies, batting .272 in June, slugging 12 home runs while driving in 27. He had an OPS+ of 189 and finished the month incredibly with two multi-home run games.

Kyle Schwarber is probably the reason which lead Philadelphia to an 18-9 record in June that has shot them into playoff contention. He’s batting .221 with a National League-leading 23 home runs and 51 RBIs.
