“When his career dies, mine dies” Chael Sonnen talks of HIS CONNECTION with Anderson Silva’s career

Anderson Silva is one of the greatest martial artists of all time – if not the absolute greatest. He has had an extensively long career, full of ups and downs, trials and tribulations.
If one is asked as to who the greatest Brazilian import has been, in the realm of either combat sports or martial arts, the answer, without much arguing, has to be the “Spider” Anderson Silva. What makes the Brazilian striker one of the greatest of all time is not simply his ability to elegantly dismantle anyone inside the octagon, but also the consistency with which he went about winning.
At 2,457 days, Silva holds the title for the longest reign atop a division, from 2006 to 2013. The middleweight king has fought some of the most brutal killers, and laid them out bare on the octagon. Most memorably, one for the ages, is his first round knockout of light heavyweight Forrest Griffin, who he completely wrecked and who then asked for mercy before the end of the fight.
Chael Sonnen discusses what links him to Anderson Silva’s greatness
Chael Sonnen, former UFC middleweight and now a full time MMA opinion piece on YouTube, is currently officiating the press conferences between Jake Paul and Anderson Silva, in anticipation of their boxing bout on the 29th of October.
Paul is 25, and is going up against 47-year-old Silva, in a boxing match headlining the SHOWTIME card to be at the Gila River Arena in Glendale, Arizona, on the 29th of October. There is a lot of talk surrounding the headliner – with Paul having everything to gain, and Silva, apparently, everything to lose. Jake Paul desperately wants to be credited as a legitimate boxer, and Anderson Silva, arguably the greatest striker the UFC has ever seen, will challenge his pugilistic skills to the max.
Meanwhile, Chael Sonnen was asked about Silva’s age-defying ability and his greatness, in a question that went like, “Anderson Silva’s still doing this at basically 50 years old, and I want to ask you, as a competitor your whole, how is this possible?” To this, Sonnen replied, in an almost emotional way, “When he steps into that ring, a part of me is with him. When his career dies, mine dies, he’s my last connection.”
Sonnen and Silva faced off against each other for the middleweight throne in 2010 and 2012, at UFC 117 and 148, where Silva reigned victorious each time. The first time, Sonnen had very clearly outstruck the legend and did everything but finish when Silva caught him in a choke and managed to submit him. While Sonnen was shattered, Anderson Silva managed to show the world the true quality of a champion – finding victory from the jaws of defeat.
Anderson Silva and Jake Paul meet in just over a month. While Jake Paul has been markedly respectful of Silva, his attitude to wanting a finish hasn’t changed. Who do have winning this one?
