Cain Velasquez (wearing mask) is released from prison

In what bodes extremely well for the MMA community, news has just broken of veteran heavyweight fighter Cain Velasquez being released from prison after an eight-month duration behind bars.

Cain Velasquez spent 253 days in jail on account of the attempted murder of Henry Goularte, who was accused of molesting Velasquez’s 4 year old son, and shooting his stepfather. Hence, Velasquez underwent a long battle with the California State Legal system, wherein he invoked the adoration and support from the entirety of the MMA community, including Dana White.

His release also comes with the judge’s statement, which went along these lines – “Mr. Velasquez, I would not release you if I was not convinced that upon a release at this time, eight months later, that you would be a danger to Harry Goularte … “If you are as devoted a husband and father, I’m confident and have to believe you will not jeopardize anything that would take you away from your son, your daughter, your family. I hope you don’t prove me wrong.” [H/T MMAJunkie]

The whole MMA community had been praying for Velasquez’s release – arguably, he had done what any parent would have if their family’s life and dignity had been threatened in the way that it had been. Not wishing to get into the semantics of it, read some of the best tweets from fighters like Daniel Cormier, Michael Bisping and Aljamain Sterling, and of course, the fans.
