Former NFL player and UFC fighter Greg Hardy set for professional boxing debut

After two appearances on Dana White’s Contender Series and one more win outside the octagon, the ex-NFL player turned fighter was hired by the UFC, and he made his debut with the promotion.Greg Hardy last played in the NFL for the Dallas Cowboys in 2015. His career was cut short due to troubles he had off the field, specifically charges of domestic abuse.

Hardy is 7-5 with one no-contest in 13 professional fights. One of his most notable victories was a unanimous decision over Yorgan de Castro at UFC 249 in May 2020. However, his pay is not the same as it was when he was in the NFL. Hardy earned a little around $19 million over his six seasons on the gridiron.

Hardy was convicted of beating a former lover in 2014, but the case was later dismissed when he filed an appeal and the victim failed to appear in court. Hardy will make his professional boxing debut on Oct. 8 in Delray Beach, Florida, for Black Sheep Boxing promotions. The opponent and number of rounds are yet to be determined, but it was made official by a promotion.

Hardy confirmed his entry into another sport by posting a photo of himself wearing boxing gloves on social media with the statement, he wrote “When you got the dream locked in your sights and all you gotta do is pull the trigger.”

After a three-year career with the UFC ended earlier this year with a first-round TKO loss to Sergey Spivak on the undercard of Colby Covington vs. Jorge Masvidal, ‘The Prince of War’ decided to switch to boxing. Hardy started his plan to transition into boxing ahead of his final UFC fight, saying he wanted to fight WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua.
