The former fighter says he did not know his son was alive up until the tragic incident and was under the thought that his child had committed suicide in 2016. When asked about what his initial reactions were to his son’s mass shooting incident, the fighter shockingly said that his main worry was if his son was a homosexual. “I got scared, ‘Oh my god is he gay? Sh**, is he gay?’ And he’s not gay, so I said, phew,” said Aaron Brinks on learning about the Colorado Springs mass shooting.

The father also stated that he never actually condemned his son’s violent behavior and instead encouraged it. “I praised him for violent behavior really early. I told him it works,” added the former MMA fighter. One of the main reasons behind Brink’s worry about his son’s sexuality is because he’s Mormon and a conservative Republican who does not “do gay”.

Aaron does not excuse his son’s behavior at the LBGTQ venue but is relieved that his son was not gay. Brink then also went on to ask forgiveness from the families of the deceased. The full interview is available on CBS 8 official YouTube channel.
