ICE WARS! Two fighters get into a brutal battle on the ice floor
ICE WARS: The Beginning
Well as much as this sounds fake, Ice Wars is an actual thing. Ice War International is making Ice Hockey Fighting a reality. The promotion is making that fiction into a reality by combining hockey fighting with the MMA ruleset.
The promotion kicked off the first ever event of its kind back in May 2022. The first event of four in Edmonton consisted of professional and semi-professional fighters who went head-to-head in a one-minute-long, two-round fight. After a mixed reaction from fans, the promotion organised the second event on August 6 at the River Cree Resort and Casino, Edmonton, Canada.
The card is headlined by Daniel Amesbury and Kurtis Swanson. The main event is a three-round non-title match between the heavyweights. Amesbury is the current heavyweight king.
Similarly to fighting in ice hockey games, these fights have a set of rules, although a few distinct ones. Some of the different ones include no head-butting or biting, the combatant’s helmets and gloves must stay on at all times and no hair-pulling or kneeing. They also wear MMA gloves alongside their full hockey gear!
