Jake Shields is one of the best fighters ever not to win a championship belt in the UFC. He once contended for the UFC welterweight title but was unsuccessful against Georges St-Pierre. Shields once competed in the High Rollers: Cops vs Stonerz Jiu-Jitsu tournament against Mitch Aguiar. Aguiar is a former Navy SEALS officer.

The unique competition showcased Jiu-Jitsu competitors competing against police or military officers. The format of the tournament had the police or military officer in sober condition and their opponents in a stoned condition. Shields won the match against Aguiar by submission, but Aguiar did have his moments.

Aguiar took down Shields twice in the tournament. First, he used his immense strength to pick up and put Shields down. Second, he used an impressive judo throw to put Shields on his back. Aguiar is not just a Navy SEALS officer. He is also an MMA fighter but not as accomplished as Shields. Interestingly, Jorge Masvidal was one of the commentators for the match.

Aguiar has fought thrice in MMA with a 2-1 record. There are many fighters in the UFC with a military background. Retired fighters Brian Stann and Randy Couture served in the military. Presently, Benoit Saint-Denis, Matt Frevola, and Neil Magny are fighters with a military background in the UFC.
