Mixed Martial Arts is a brutal sport. Some of the knockouts in MMA are very brutal to watch. The recent knockout of Bryce Mitchell by Josh Emmet at UFC 296 made fan fear for Mitchell’s life. Francis Ngannou‘s knockout of Alistair Overeem and Jorge Masvidal‘s knockout of Ben Askren saw the loser remain unconscious for long.

Recently, a brutal knockout happened in a regional MMA fight. A popular MMA account on the social media platform X, Dovy, uploaded the scary knockout video. The video showed a fight between fighters, most likely featherweights or lightweights. One fighter threw a quick jab right hook from the orthodox position, and it landed clean on his opponent. The right hook froze his opponent, and he again landed one more right hook before the referee stepped in.

Scarily enough, the knockout happened whilst he was still standing. The only reason he looked like he was standing was the support from the cage. The referee then proceeded to put the fighter on the canvas. Unfortunately, he did not do it slowly enough, as his head bounced up and down when the referee put him down.

Brutal knockouts are part of the career of a combat sports athlete. Even the pound-for-pound king of the UFC, Islam Makkhachev, suffered a knockout loss in his second fight in the UFC. The former pound-for-pound kings of the UFC, Kamaru Usman and Alexander Volkanovski, also suffered brutal knockout losses. Incidentally, it was a head kick that knocked out Usman and Volkanovski.
