The PFL (Professional Fighting League) is looking to clean up its roster after hosting three events in Las Vegas. Now PFL wants to remove any doping chances from their fighter lists. Almost nine fighters failed doping tests in just a single month. Looking at the future of the organization, the PFL president has come to a decision after NSAC caught his fighters.
It was during the time in April when PFL 1, 2, and 3 were hosted at Virgin Hotels of Las Vegas. On April 1, then April 7, and then April 15, were the dates when NSAC found the culprits. One of them was former light heavyweight fighter Thiago Santos of the UFC. It was devastating for Ray Sefo to hear that his fighter was on some performance-enhancing drugs.
Being aware of total banned substances himself, the ex-fighter Sefo confirms working on that for the organization. Sefo said in a recent presser, “Well obviously you know uh my stance is that sports should be competed at the highest level but at a safe level and everybody being clean um that’s the message right through.”
PFL president confirms “USADA, there will be part of this program.” Ray continued, “From now on as you saw this will be in the playoffs as well as the championship and moving forward.” It was also surprising for the fight fans to see a UFC fighter using PED in other organizations. After being notified about the fighter, PFL released news about their zero-tolerance policy.
USADA also confirmed teaming up with PFL
Failed drug tests have caused a lot of chaos in many fighters’ journeys. Someone like Jon Jones was under the radar of USADA for using banned substances. After that, awareness of banned substances has been more focused. NSAC reported nine drug test failures in just one month gives a big example of where PFL is lacking.
Later, USADA confirmed that they are working to bring the best sports with the PFL. USADA said as per Cageside, “We can confirm as previously released by PFL that we are in discussions with PFL and are hoping to announce a new anti-doping program for PFL to have a gold standard program to ensure clean sport and to protect its athletes.”
So far, no news has come out on a new testing method for the PFL fighters. Currently, USADA is under the World Anti-Doping Agency, which has its own banned substance list. Now, PFL might clean up their organization before getting their Elite fighters like Francis Ngannou and Jake Paul in the fight cards.
