Jordan B. Peterson made significant contributions to psychology, particularly in the areas of creativity and personality. He is also a prominent figure on YouTube, where he shares university and public lectures, addressing various topics related to psychology and philosophy. Peterson once made comments on MMA and the fight game. Peterson appeared numerous times on the JRE podcast.
In a candid conversation with a journalist, Jordan Peterson urged individuals to attain proficiency and potential peril in their lives. He emphasized that people must understand the importance of becoming capable and formidable. And that it was necessary to assert their rightful position in society. “If you learn a martial art, you learn to be dangerous, but simultaneously, you learn to control it,” he stated.
The journalist raised an eyebrow, questioning the notion of being competent and dangerous. Peterson clarified that without that potency, one lacked moral grounding in one’s restraint. Peterson stated martial arts instructors understand this concept deeply. He explained that through martial arts, one acquired the ability to pose a threat yet simultaneously learn the art of control. Peterson argued that life’s challenges demand this readiness, without which one is ill-equipped.
Peterson countered in response to the journalist’s concern about the term “dangerous,” implying readiness to harm. He said that capability did not equate to intention. It was about having the potential, not necessarily employing it. This nuanced perspective encapsulated Peterson’s belief in the importance of personal empowerment and preparedness without endorsing aggression or violence.
How Joe Rogan put Jordan Peterson’s psychology license at risk
Psychologist Jordan Peterson found himself in the crosshairs of the Ontario College of Psychologists, with his clinical psychology license dangling by a thread. The reason? Well, as Peterson humorously put it, he jokingly pointed a finger at none other than his good friend and podcaster, Joe Rogan himself.
During Episode #1933 of JRE, Peterson playfully remarked that it was Rogan’s fault. Peterson explained that the College of Psychologists had unloaded a barrage of 13 simultaneous “complaints” against him. These “complaints” were essentially actions taken on behalf of various individuals, who, as Peterson revealed, could be from anywhere worldwide and need not be his clients or acquaintances. With a chuckle, Peterson disclosed that one complainant from the U.S. had submitted the complete transcript of their last discussion with Joe Rogan. This left Peterson contemplating how to defend himself, given that everything he and Rogan had uttered seemingly brought the esteemed profession of psychology to the brink of a reputational challenge.
As of now, it remains uncertain whether Peterson’s license will truly be in jeopardy. The Ontario court recently ruled against Peterson, ordering him to undergo social media training. However, one thing is clear – when it comes to dishing out humor and insightful discussions, Peterson and Rogan remain unparalleled.
