“An MMA Legend” – The MMA community sends condolences at the heartbreaking news of UFC icon Anthony “Rumble” Johnson’s death

The MMA community can be extremely bullish, yet at the same time, extremely fierce in its outlook on things. However, one thing is for sure – when one of its own is afflicted by hard times, or worse, passes on, the community rallies together in support.

Last night, it was revealed by a Bellator spokesperson that the iconic knockout artist, Anthony “Rumble” Johnson, who fought in the UFC and Bellator, had passed on, after a lengthy battle with illness. The tweet was posted as a tribute to his memory, having served the organization, and the sport of MMA for almost two decades.

Just 38 at the time of his death, Johnson leaves behind him an incredible legacy that fans, fighters and upcoming MMA practitioners can look up to with pride. Known as a knockout artist, he was 23-6 in the UFC. With his last fight coming in May 2021, Johnson had amassed a total of 17 knockouts and 6 decisions across his MMA career.

In September 2021, the American had posted worryingly on Instagram, asking for people to keep him in his prayers, as undoubtedly, he must have battling an undisclosed illness.

Loved by fighters, and fans alike, a slew of tweets poured in his support, from fans, and pros like ex-rival Daniel Cormier, Chris Weidman and Ariel Helwani.
