Usman will get his first world title shot against Pitbull.
The Eagles MMA camp have a busy season up ahead as Usman Nurmagomedov and Patricky Pitbull are set to face off for the Bellator lightweight title. This is barely a month after Islam challenges Oliveira for the UFC’s lightweight title at Abu Dhabi.
Pittbull won the title back in November, when he beat Peter Queally to capture the vacant belt. Originally the belt was held by his younger brother, Patricio who vacated it shortly before the fight. He won the title fight via a TKO in round 2.
While he was originally scheduled to make his first defence as early as July this year, Pitbull would pull out a month away from the fight, citing an injury. Now he’s finally got his first challenger in a young 24-year-old Russian.

The young Russian question in none other than Usman Nurmagomedov, the cousin of undefeated UFC Hall of Famer, Khabib Nurmagomedov. Like all that have the family’s name, Usman too is an undefeated fighter with a record of 15-0.
4 of these wins have come under the Bellator banner with his early career being spent in the Gorilla FC, now better known as Eagle FC. Although this was before his cousin would have purchased the bankrupt MMA promotion.
In his Bellator debut, Usman won a unanimous decision over Mike Hamel. If many thought this would be same brand of ground control and neutralize your opponent style of fighting, Usman would soon prove them wrong with three consecutive first-round finishes in his next bouts against Luis Muro, Patrick Pietila, and Cristopher Gonzalez .
This run earned him a shot at the championship against Patricky. No venue has been officially announced by the promotion, who are yet to announce the bout. It was in fact first reported by MMA Fight Universe and later confirmed by MMA Junkie.
It is interesting trivia that both top prospects from eagle’s MMA will have to challenge the divisional best of their organization, a Brazilian around the same time period. Who do you see walking out as Bellator Champion in November? Let us know!
