One of the big differences between F1 and MotoGP’s format is that the latter will still rely on qualifying. As a result, the sprint race will not be deciding the starting grid for next day’s race. The main aim for the short race format is to make the weekend more attractive to old and new viewers. Since Valentino Rossi and Marc Marquez’s absence, the viewer numbers have gone way down and need to be resurrected.

The decision to bring sprint races to MotoGP feels a bit tacky apart from the fact that it was leaked in the Austrian GP paddock. The drivers had no idea that this was going to happen moving further. A number of riders have shown their discomfort regarding this action. Jack Miller on the other hand says that he welcomes the new format.
