Fabio Quartararo has been struggling in his path to success in MotoGP in recent times. The same cannot be said forever for Ducati’s Pecco Bagnaia who seems to be dominating the championship with ease. The Italian rider went on to win Sunday’s Austrian GP with a margin of more than five seconds to second place. Throughout the weekend, he took pole, went on to win the sprint and made it a triple with the race win on Sunday.
At the Halfway stage of the season, Pecco Bagnaia has gone on to increase his lead to 62 points. Fabio Quartararo has noticed the similarities between Pecco’s title campaign and that of Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, who is absolutely dominating F1 right now. While his team has won all 12 races that have taken place, Max has won 10 of them while having eight consecutive wins.
In an interview, Fabio shares his thoughts on the situation. “I think he’s a little bit [like] Verstappen now because I think also like in the previous years he had the best bike,” Quartararo said when asked if anyone could beat Bagnaia now. “But you can have the best bike and not do the best results. It’s a combination and looks like right now the combination he has with the bike, the confidence he has with the bike, when you are winning, winning, winning you feel you are unstoppable,” he continued.
Max Verstappen is close to equalling Sebastian Vettel’s record with Red Bull
Sebastian Vettel won 9 consecutive races in a season with Red Bull back in 2013 during his era of dominance. It seems like Max Verstappen is etching closer to matching that record. As of the 2023 Belgian GP, Max has won 8 races in a row and it doesn’t seem like he’s going to stop anytime soon. In total, the Dutchman has already won 10 races in this season.
Meanwhile, Fabio Quartararo continues with his struggles in 2023 with Yamaha. The Frenchman went on to finish in eighth place during sunday’s race. The podium was occupied by Pecco Bagnaia, Brad Binder and Marco Bezzecchi who finished first, second and third respectively. It will be interesting to see what Marco can do in the coming races to tackle Pecco’s defence.
