Fabio Quartararo, the 2021 MotoGP World Champion, joined the Yamaha Factory team in 2021 after spending 2 seasons at SRT, Yamaha’s satellite team. He won the championship in his debut year with Yamaha. Despite a successful start with the Factory team, The Frenchman could not defend his title in 2022 due to his bike’s below-par performance.

In 2023, Quartararo will be looking to return to Championship winning ways. With a new contract in place, securing the French rider a spot with Yamaha until the end of 2024, Quartararo is all set to mount another title challenge. This year will mark his 4th with the team and 6th in the premier class.

MotoGP held its first pre-season shakedown in Sepang over the course of last weekend. The Shakedown test proved to be immensely successful for Yamaha. The team tested their new engine for 2023 during the shakedown. On the final day of the test, Quartararo clocked a top speed of 335km/h, five more than Quartararo managed in last year’s Grand Prix, and eight more than Yamaha managed in the 2022 Sepang Test.

With the official Pre-season test underway on the 10th of February, Yamaha released a press release about their rider’s winter and ambitions for the season. Yamaha mentioned that Quartararo has been busy training and keeping up with promotional activities during the pre-season. “The wait is over! This winter break was very long, but in a way that was good for me because it gave me time to train and prepare for the upcoming season. It will be a long one – we know this. We need to put in good work during this test to make sure we are ready for it. ” The Frenchman said.

The 2021 MotoGP Champion then discussed his 2023 bike and plans for the official pre-season test. “I’m excited to try the 2023 spec and to see what progress we made. I arrived in Sepang a bit earlier and spent some time at the track during the Shakedown Test. I heard and saw positive things, so I can’t wait to try it for myself.” he concluded.

Fans will be delighted to hear that the new and improved Yamaha engine can reach top speeds that exceed last year’s benchmark. The 2023 season is all set to be an enthralling challenge, with Reigning Champion Francesco Bagnaia itching to hold on to his crown. It will be interesting to see how the riders start their season off when lights go out at the Portuguese Grand Prix in March.
