‘I’m really happy with the progression,’ Marc Marquez rejoices after finishing eighth fastest on Day 1 of Aragon GP
Marc Marquez
The Italian GP held in Mugello was Marc Marquez’s last MotoGP race appearance. It was after the qualifying round that the Honda rider announced that he will be sitting out the 2022 MotoGP season. The main cause being him getting a fourth operation done on his right arm and the recovery period needed after the operation is done. Although the recovery process went faster than expected which meant that the Spaniard was medically cleared to ride this weekend at the Aragon GP.
Eight-time World Champion Marc Marquez did not fail to impress as he finished in 8th place at the end of the opening day of the Aragon GP where he was just 0.359s away from the top place. This was the rider’s performance after being away from the sport for 110 days. It says a lot about Marc and the talent and skill set that he has to offer. With more laps, the confidence keeps on rising for the Spaniard. In the Honda rider’s last race at Mugello, he was 12th fastest and +0.767s from the leader during Friday’s practice sessions.
Previously, whenever Marc Marquez used to tackle a race weekend, his right arm and shoulder would become worse over the weekend before the surgery. Although now the rider reveals that there has been good progression and that he is delighted. It is a massive sign of relief and improvement for the rider who will take on Qualifying today. Marc had a few thoughts to share about his first Friday being back in the sport after what feels like an eternity.

“Afternoon I felt better and the pace was faster,” Marc Marquez on his Friday Practice Sessions
He further went on to give his analysis on the situation. “I’m really happy actually, especially with the progression,” said Marquez, who finished the day as the top Honda rider. “In the morning I felt really bad and was struggling a lot to get the good position on the bike. I didn’t feel comfortable. But then the afternoon I felt better and the pace was faster. My body position was better and this is what I really like from the day,” he said.
“It’s clear we still need to work with the bike because we have some weak points but I’m happy with myself. We will see tomorrow. I know the mornings are more difficult that the afternoons for some reason – maybe to warm everything = so, short runs but all OK,” he continued.
Having made a comeback to the sport earlier than anticipated, Marc Marquee has managed to send the fans in a riot. The amount of excitement that he brings to the sport is immense and the Aragon GP just got way better with the MotoGP legend’s presence.
While it’s nice to see Marc Marquez back in the sport, there also lie concerns as to whether he will be able to take another hit like that. He will be more careful probably while riding now.
