“It was essential to…improve the engine’s power and that will be done next year”: Fabio Quartararo’s manager discusses improvements for the Yamaha engine
Fabio Quartararo
Given the reigning MotoGP World Champion Fabio Quartararo‘s current form in the sport, it has been said time and time again that the Frenchman is so skilled that he can achieve race wins with a mid-field-level motorbike. While Fabio is confident in himself that he can chase the World Championship successfully for a second time after his brilliant title victory last year, the 23-year-old does require a better machine from Yamaha, which would make it a lot easier for him to target for the Grand Prix victories in the MotoGP 2022 season.
As we are already 11 races into the MotoGP season for this year, Fabio Quartararo has cemented his lead in the points table by grabbing some spectacular victories in Portugal, Spain, and Germany. But But Fabio’s points do not show how the racer has struggled with his current Monster Energy Yamaha ride because of the engine issues that he had to face. If the engine on his bike could be improved, Fabio would have a powerful bike that would take him further on his path towards winning the MotoGP World Championship for a second time. Eric Mahe, Fabio’s manager, has spoken about this topic in a recent interview, saying that they hope Yamaha’s engines will undergo a massive change next year, to give Fabio Quartararo the power that he needs in his motorbike to win races.
Fabio Quartararo’s manager talks about engine issues at Yamaha
In 2021, Fabio Quartararo was promoted to the Yamaha factory racing team in place of the legendary Valentino Rossi, and the young Frenchman went above and beyond proving himself as he clinched the World Championship title in his debut year as a Yamaha racer and he signed on for an extension with the team till 2024. But as Fabio is now targeting another World Championship victory, it seems like Yamaha is not being able to give him a ride with an engine powerful enough to take on the Ducati’s and the other teams with more powerful machines to back them.
While speaking about the Yamaha engine in a recent interview with GP Racing, Fabio Quartararo’s manager went on to say, “Today, everything is decided by a tenth of a second. Currently, the situation is delicate if Fabio does not start from the front, because it is impossible to overtake or even maintain the air cone on the straights. When Fabio takes the lead from the start, as in Portimão and Barcelona, there is no problem.”
He further said, “Therefore, it was essential to find a solution to improve the engine’s power and that will be done next year. Fabio leads the championship, so his merit is even greater. After all, it is more rewarding than if he had the best engine and the media coverage is even greater.”
