To fill in for Marc Marquez, one of the greatest racers of the contemporary times in MotoGP, is a giant task in itself. But Repsol Honda test rider Stefan Bradl has been doing that with great professionalism, on and off, for the past three seasons. And now that Marc Marquez has taken a hiatus from racing once again to rest and recuperate after his corrective spine surgery at the Mayo Clinic, Minnesota, Stefan Bradl is back to fill Marquez’s shoes–but the German does have some complaints about it.

Stefan Bradl has displayed great loyalty to the team of Repsol Honda as he has always stepped up to take Marc Marquez’s place whenever the Spaniard had been unable to race due to his health issues over the last three seasons. Right after the news broke that Marc has opted to undergo another corrective surgery to improve his health conditions, Repsol Honda Team Manager Alberto Puig announced that Stefan Bradl will be called in as his replacement.

Marc Marquez returned to racing in MotoGP in 2022 after his long hiatus due to an elbow fracture followed by some episodes of diplopia. After getting some impressive results in the races, he decided to opt for an elective surgery at the Mayo Clinic in the US, because of which he needed Bradl to fill in for him in the succeeding races.

Last week, when Bradl took to the Sachsenring for riding Marc Marquez’s Repsol Honda motorbike, he felt some things that were gravely wrong about the situation. He said, “This race was worse than Thailand or Indonesia. The heat as terrible. Honda failed to develop a fairing that would allow riders to survive this heat. This message must be heard. This situation is not acceptable. I’ve been through a lot of bad, hot races, but I don’t really know why I finished this race.”

He further said, “After two laps, I couldn’t pull the brake because my fingers were burned. With so many left-hand turns, your right hand only gets a little wind, which made the problem even worse. After ten laps, my right foot was also burned. In these weather conditions, the bike is impractical. We have to urgently find a solution.
