“That’s hot”: Frenzied fans comment as Jorge Martin cruises to pole position in Australia by breaking Lorenzo’s 9-year-old record

The results are in for the Qualifying of the third-last round of racing in the MotoGP 2022 Championships–and fans are absolutely here for it. This year’s Australian MotoGP Qualifying saw Jorge Martin break a nine-year old record set by Jorge Lorenzo on his way towards grabbing pole position at the Phillip Island Circuit. Coming right behind him is Marc Marquez, who won the Australian GP when it was last held in 2019. The top 3 were rounded out by Francesco Bagnaia of Ducati Lenovo.

Now, surprisingly, Fabio Quartararo, the World Championship hopeful who has got a narrow gap of only two points between him and his title rival Pecco Bagnaia, could only come 5th in the standings. And Miguel Oliveira, who won the recently held Thai MotoGP race, could only make it to the 21st spot in the grid.

The Australian MotoGP race will be a crucial one as the Championship can go in any direction right now, considering only 20 points separate the top 3 racers. And just as the MotoGP fans had their eyes glued to the Qualifying, they witnessed Jorge Martin‘s record-breaking lap, and commented on Twitter about it.

Pramac Ducati rider Jorge Martin managed to put his lap timings just ahead of Marc Marquez, who seems to have found his old form after returning from a long hiatus due to his health issues. Martin scored a 1m27.767s laptime, which broke the lap record that three-time World Champion Jorge Lorenzo has had at the Australian Circuit ever since 2013. This earned Jorge Martin his third pole position in the current 2022 Championship season.

Interestingly, the top 3 in the Championship table are going to start the Australian MotoGP together as Pecco Bagnaia will start in P3, followed by Aleix Espargaro in P4 and Championship leader Fabio Quartararo in P5. With the best grid position out of the three, Bagnaia has the advantage, but Quartararo is going to try his best to defend his title.

Now, it only remains to be seen who comes out at the top of the points table after the Australian MotoGP race is over.
