“The bike works better”: Joan Mir takes over testing the new fairings for Sukuki after Alex Rins suffered a fractured due to his crash with Takaaki Nakagami

Even though Suzuki has got only two racers on the grid in the 2022 season of MotoGP, the initial few Grands Prix of this year have panned out well for the Cambiago-based racing team as both Alex Rins and Joan Mir are currently within the top 10 in the Championship standings. But, of course, aiming for the top stop in the points table is what they are aiming for as of now. Thus, the Hamamatsu team has introduced some new machine parts for testing purposes only.
On Monday, right after the Catalan Grand Prix, Joan Mir took to the racing circuit to try out the new parts that Suzuki is planning on adding to the motorbikes. The session was a success as Mir was quite happy with the new fairing that was brough to him, and he believes this new addition would improve the aerodynamics of his present ride.
After the testing was done on Monday, Joan Mir shared his thoughts on the advancement made by his team. He concluded that the day had been fairly productive as some of the parts were really good.
Joan Mir says Suzuki is up for great things with the new improvements they are planning for
As of now, Suzuki has got two riders on the track, but Alex Rins endured a humerus fracture after his horrific crash with Takaaki Nakagami during the very first lap of the Catalan Grand Prix. Due to the incident, the responsibility for the entire test program for Suzuki has fallen upon the shoulders of Joan Mir, who tried out some new parts that the team might add to his GSx-RR in near future.
While trying out the new additions, Joan Mir was particularly impressed by the new fairing that Suzuki installed on his motorbike. During an interview which follow the test session, Joan Mir talked extensively about the improvements that Suzuki is planning for the bikes, and how that might work out for them.
Joan Mir said, “The priority was to understand and improve in the area where I’m having the most problems, which is at the corner entry. We are following a path that I am pleased with, we have improved at that level. Suzuki brought some fairings, another thing that was pending to improve the bike and that also made me happy.”
He further said, “The bike works better and makes less wheelie, so it affects the riding in a positive way. I’m happy but I’m not surprised, they said they were going to keep working this year to finish the season at 100 percent, and they’re showing it.”
