“Why not?” Davide Tardozzi confirms that Ducati will use team orders at the last race if required

Jack Miller and Pecco Bagnaia

Ducati has put forth a torrential charge for glory in the second half of the season. Having already won the manufacturers’ championship, the Italian factory squad leads the team’s champions too. When it comes to the riders’ world championship, Pecco Bagnaia is just a mere 2 points away from Fabio Quartararo in the standings. With Valencia being the last race of the season, Davide Tardozzi had an interesting comment to make.

In recent times, team orders have been the talk of the hour, wherein Davide Tardozzi put fuel to the fire as he revealed that they would consider applying team orders at Valencia if required. Currently, there are five riders who have what it takes to win the 2022 MotoGP world championship. Out of the fierce five, three riders are powered by Ducati.

Those three riders consist of Enea Bastianini, Jack Miller and Pecco Bagnaia who has the best chance out of the three to win the title. The only non-Ducati riders in contention for the title are Aprilia’s Aleix Espargaró and championship leader Fabio Quartararo. It should be noted that Johann Zarco had the pace to overtake Bagnaia last week but chose otherwise as he didn’t want to compromise his title charge. Here is what Davide had to say regarding the situation.

“At the moment there are no team orders,” Ducati Team Manager Davide Tardozzi states

He furthermore went on to explain the procedure to be put in place. At the moment there are no team orders. But it is quite clear that if we are in the last race and Enea Bastianini or Jack Miller no longer have a mathematical chance of being champions and Pecco is in the fight with Fabio [Quartararo]…why not? Why not?” he said.

After a magnificent effort made by the team in the first half, it looks likely that Ducati will take home all the trophies this year, with Bagnaia winning the world title as Fabio Quartararo doesn’t seem to have an answer for the Italian’s blistering pace. In the next few weeks, the MotoGP champion will be crowned after a season filled with drama and mishaps. Team orders seem to be a rational choice for the Italian squad as Pecco could be the only one able to take the trophy home.
