Following Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) defeat against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the Indian Premier League 2020, CSK skipper MS Dhoni admitted that he was unable to middle deliveries. SRH batted first and scored 164 runs riding on Priyam Garg‘s half century. In the chase, the usual problems plagued CSK as their opening woes and slow batting approach led to the equation getting too stiff at the end. Though Ravindra Jadeja and MS Dhoni came up with valiant knocks, CSK fell short by 7 runs.

With the defeat, CSK are languishing at the bottom of the table. Their defeat yesterday was the third consecutive one. The previous time they suffered three consecutive losses was back in 2014.

Was trying to hit the ball too hard – Dhoni

MS Dhoni

Speaking after the match, MS Dhoni said, “I was not able to middle a lot of deliveries. Was trying to hit it too hard. When the wicket is slightly at the slower side, it is better to time it. Looking at outfield it was subconsciously coming to us to hit the ball hard.”

Dhoni also spoke about how CSK can improve saying, “We need to get a lot of things right. It is the professionalism. We need to take our catches not bowl no-balls. Those are the controllables and may be we are getting too relaxed. We have been a bit too relaxed at times. After the 16th over, we had two good overs but overall we could have been slightly better. Nobody wants to drop catches but at the same at this level, we need to draw a line and take these catches especially when the team hasn’t been doing that outstandingly well.”

Dhoni signed off saying CSK will try to come back stronger in the next match. CSK face Kings XI Punjab next on Sunday.
