In a historic match at the Mubadala World Tennis Championships, former world no.1 Andy Murray will be facing off against the also former world no.1 and defending champion Rafael Nadal. Nadal had withdrawn from the US Open 2021 after being plagued with a right foot injury bothering him throughout the season.

The Mubadala World Tennis Championships are an exhibition event hosting men’s singles and women’s singles at the Abu Dhabi International Tennis Complex, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. It was started in 2009 as a world-class event to popularise the sport in the middle east.

Rafael Nadal (current world no.6 and former no.1) is the defending champion of the event after claiming victory in 2019 (Since the 2020 Event was canceled due to COVID). Andy Murray is currently in his long-awaited comeback after undergoing two separate hip surgeries preventing him to play the sport he once dominated as a member of ” The Big Four”- which also includes Nadal.

This match between two former champions is brought to fruition after Murray defeated fellow Britanian Daniel Evans in the quarter-final match of the Mubadala World Tennis Championships.
