Former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) opener, Shane Watson is all praises for the IPL 2020 champions, Mumbai Indians (MI). The former Australia opener, announced his retirement from all formats of cricket after CSK’s campaign in the 2020 edition came to an end.
Watson said MI had no holes in their batting or bowling sides and were the strongest team in 2020.
MI began the IPL 2020 with a loss to CSK. But progressed from strength to strength as the tournament moved ahead. They qualified for the Play-offs with the top spot on the ranking table with 18 points. They comfortably beat Delhi Capitals (DC) in Qualifier 1. They went on to win the title against the same side.
Not only was 2020 MI’s 5th triumphant victory in 8 years, but they became the first team to achieve the title 5 times. Referring to it, Shane Watson has said that MI had no weaknesses.
“Congratulations Mumbai Indians for winning their 5th IPL title. There is no question that Mumbai Indians had the strongest team all the way through IPL 2020. As the IPL continued to evolve, it confirmed to me more and more that Mumbai Indians have no weaknesses. That’s internationally as well, let alone in the IPL. The more the Mumbai Indians played in the tournament, more and more, it felt they had no weaknesses,” he said on his YouTube show.
“They had world-class opening batsmen, Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock. Surykumar Yadav, he continues to bat so well, it’s not going to be too long before he plays for India. And he had a brilliant tournament. And then Ishan Kishan who came in and set the IPL alight as well. Whether he was batting in the middle-overs or opening in the absence of Rohit, he provided so much impetus,” he added.
Hardik Pandya and Kieron Pollard had come up as reliable finishers. Watson even discussed that. “And then two best finishers in world cricket at the moment right now… Hardik Pandya and Kieron Pollard, just for a bit of back-up there and also Krunal Pandya,” he said.
He also added it was going to be tough to beat the team even in the coming years. “He also added it was going to be tough to beat them even in the coming years,” he added.

Shane Watson is not the only one praising MI. Former West Indies batsman, Brian Lara has also appreciated the reigning champions.
He said they one are one of the most dominant sides in the IPL. According to him, MI’s continuity makes them special and stand out form the rest of the teams in the IPL.
“They are an unbelievable team. If they are not at the top, they are very close to the top (team). I think there is no franchise in the world that can play cricket like Mumbai Indians,” he told Star Sports after MI’s triumph.
