The NASCAR Cup Serie race Chicago, possibly the last street race in the city, witnessed some wild moments. As it has been the story of the 2025 season so far, when there is chaos, Carson Hocevar is always close by, and this race week was no different. He was the reason for one of the biggest incidents earlier in the race, ruining the races for the likes of Austin Dillon.
The spire Motorsports driver slammed hard into the wall on the turn 10 of the race’s fourth lap. It was an unforced error as he has enough space ahead and behind him, when Carson Hocevar lost the balance. The cars sustained significant damage, before sliding back into the track and causing a seven cars pile-up, running the whole momentum of the event.
The incident collected the likes of, Brad Keselowski, Austin Dillon, Daniel Suárez, Todd Gilliland, Will Brown, and Riley Herbst. All of their cars endured massive damage, as they were driving blind out of the turn 10 with no spotter to guide them about the pile-up that was ahead of them. All the driver involved were furious at the No:77 Chevy driver.

Carson Hocevar has been involved in many incidents this year, where he was in wrong and faced the wrath of the Cup garage and this was another one added to the list. Austin Dillon was livid and on team radio branded last year’s rookie of the year winner as the “biggest dumbass” of the sport and his No:3 Richard Childress Racing Chevy team seem agreed with his fast.
AD: Carson Hocevar is the biggest dumbass in the entire sport.
No:3 Team: Yep. Everybody knows it buddy.
AD: Wiped out into 10 and just wiped out half the field.

Austin Dillon is disappointed over poor Chicago finish
The incident resulted in the two times Xfinity Series champion Dillon finishing at P36, the second worst finisher of the day ahead of Brad Keselowski. Talking about this result, he admitted that he is disappointed as they started the weekend string the P10 in the qualifying and having a string car for the race.

Disappointing day in the No. 3 BREZTRI AEROSPHERE Chevrolet at the Chicago Street Race. Crew chief Richard Boswell and everyone on the RCR team brought a really fast Chevrolet to the streets of Chicago. We qualified 10th and thought we would be a contender today in the race.
Austin Dillon said via NBC sports.
He then highlighted how all his dreams of a strong finish were ruined by the Carson Hocevar incident which left him in big shame and loss for words. He admitted that the bad luck has been killing his possible good days this season.
A car spun in front of us on the first lap and it ended our day before we could even get it started. It’s a shame and I’m just at a loss for words at this point. We’ll just keep bringing cars like this and hope our luck turns around for us at some point.
Austin Dillon added.
The comments from Austin Dillon about Carson Hocevar and his race result shows how his hopeful day was ruined after getting caught in someone else’s mess. The P5 finish from Kyle Busch, his teammate, shows the car had potential. It would be interesting to see how the Dillon-Hocevar beef will evolve and will the former end his unlucky streak soon.
