NASCAR cup season’s return after the extended season break with a huge controversial featuring Austin Dillon and Joey Logano. The RCR driver won the race by wrecking the race leader Logano and soon after JGR’s Denny Hamlin, on the final corner of the race to secure his spot in the playoff, when his team was desperate for one.
Joey Logano showed his frustration after the race on the pit-road. As the No:22 Team Penske driver got into the pit-stop after the race, he saw the No:3 team waiting to cross the pit-lane to celebrate with the driver. He revved his engine in front of them, show casing his frustration. The crowd featured Dillon’s family, and he was not happy with the veteran.
Austin Dillon talked about the incident via his recent appearance in the Happy Hour podcast. He asserted that he was okay with the comments from the driver but not his action. Dillon pointed out that, the Ford driver should have been more careful on the pit-road and should have shown his frustration some other way.
The only thing that did piss me off about Joey was when he came through there, my wife and kid were headed across to get to cross, and he revved the engine up right in front of my kid and Johnny Morris and those people. I get it. You got to be mad and upset, but do it like an interview or talk to me about it. You got to be careful on pit road with that type of stuff.Austin Dillon said via Happy Hour Podcast.
Denny Hamlin explains how Joey Logano won’t get penalized
Joe Gibbs Racing driver Denny Hamlin, who was involved in the crash, talked about the pit road incident in his podcast and pointed out how Logano doesn’t deserve a penalty. He asserted that no one is allowed to be over the wall during live pit-stop, hence the No:3 group has some blame to take in this instance.
No one is supposed to be over the wall at the point that the cars are coming onto pit road, but it has gotten loose over time. Maybe they tighten that up a little bit.Denny Hamlin said.
Though what Logano did was questionable, it doesn’t warrant a penalty as he was in the live pit-road and it was the No:3 crew that made the situation bit unsafe. The ford veteran has every right to be angry about the race finish as well. It would be interesting to see how NASCAR would address the situation.
