The 2024 NASCAR Cup season hosted one of the most controversial races of the year last Sunday at Martinsville. The Round of 8 cut-off race saw the championship-4 being established with the disqualification of Christopher Bell for the wall ride and the alleged race manipulation involving three drivers causing the drama.
Ross Chastain and Austin Dillon were fined $100K, gave point deduction and two of their crew members were suspended for allegedly helping William Byron. 23XI Racing’s Bubba Wallace was also given same penalty for helping out Christopher Bell by slowing down. Ahead of the Phoenix race Wallace broke silence on the matter, asserting he wasn’t involved in any wrongdoing and added that the team didn’t appeal the ruling sensing it was pointless.

He went onto assert that the whole 23XI Racing team was determined to help Tyler Reddick in the championship race, and didn’t want to waste any time on an appeal that was most probably a lost cause. So, they decided to overlook the drama and focus on the race.
Bubba Wallace admitted Martinsville was a frustrating week
While further talking about the point, Bubba Wallace pointed out that the No:23 team was running their own race at Martinsville and their attempt to keep Kyle Larson behind by defending hard caused the issue that slowed him down. The massive drop in their cars pace compared the regular season made it a frustrating week for him.
The comments from 23XI Racing driver suggest that despite disappointment over the race result and penalty, they have moved on. The whole team is focused on Tyler Reddick and giving everything to secure their maiden championship.
