The NASCAR Cup Series race last Sunday at Bristol Motor Speedway was wild, as it witnessed Spire Motorsports’ Carson Hocevar having a fist fight with Team Penske Racing’s Ryan Blaney. They duo trade punches following a confrontation over the stage three wreck that ruined the race for the No:12 Ford driver.
In the following week Blaney sat down with Denny Hamlin on Actions Detrimental podcast and talked about how the Spire driver is not 100% to blame for the incidnet. The attitude shown by the veteran doing and after the fight has left Hocevar impressed. He now respects and admires the Ford driver more than he has ever done.
Yeah, I saw it, and I was shocked that he went on there obviously, but you know, he’s very scrappy. Like I’ve been cool with him and stuff before, and I thought we’ve been racing really good. So, that’s been a good working relationship-ish. We’ve been cool and stuff. And I think Ryan’s one of the coolest guys in the garage. I mean, he’s got a cool mustache and smokes and drinks whiskey and all that, right? I think he looks the part really well.
Carson Hocevar said ahead of Kansas race.
The No:77 Chevy driver admitted that he became a bigger Ryan Blaney fan after the fight and the veteran has earned his respect forever. Carson Hocevar was also left impressed with how the No:12 driver takes to the media without caring much about the black eye he had after the fight.
He made me more of a fan, honestly. When he went on there, I was like, all right, respect for that, for sure. He could have held some ice on his eye and whatnot, but he went right out there and did it, and I have the utmost respect for that.
Carson Hocevar added during his media session (Via nascar.com).
Later in the same conversation, the racer admitted that he initially didn’t want to hit the driver during the confrontation and in retrospect he can see the veteran has no plan to hit him. But the adrenalin rush in the moment made the youngster expect the worse and reacted accordingly.
I didn’t want to hit him, and looking back, I 100% see where he had wanted to maybe just throw a shove in there and then yell, but I think we both saw each other in the moment; you’re not gonna see that. You’re gonna predict the worst.
Carson Hocevar asserted.
Carson Hocevar expects the drama to make him closer to Ryan Blaney
In the same media session, Hocevar talked about the history of drivers that fought each other in the sport over the years. He highlighted how most of them became close friends afterwards and he expect the same to happen to him with Blaney.

I’ve watched the sport all my life; this is the stuff that brings people closer together, and you laugh about it. So, yeah, I’ve never had a problem with really him on a racetrack and we’ve been running good. I think he’s as standup of a guy that could be that he could look at it and know that that was just racing and whatnot.
Carson Hocevar said.
Being the character, the Ford driver is the friendship is most likely to happen, as the Team Penske driver is one of the most welcoming drivers in the garage. It would be interesting to see how their relationship situation is going to playout in the coming years.
