The 2024 NASCAR Cup Season so far has been a nightmare for Ford teams, who before coming to Kansas was winless in 28 combined races. They came the closest to a victory they have ever been on Sunday, but luck wasn’t on their side as Chris Buescher lost the Cup race with a 0.001 second gap to Hendrick Motorsports’ Kyle Larson. The winless streak has now extended to 30 races.

Chris Buescher found himself in an aggressive last lap battle for the win with Kyle Larson as the duo survived multiple cautions and wrecks on the final stages of the race to get upfront. The No:5 Chevy, after failing to over take the No:17 Ford multiple times, aggressively moved him by bumping on the door to kill the momentum and eventually take the win.

What makes the win more painful is the fact that initially it was thought Buescher had wont it and the team started celebration. But soon after NASCAR announced Larson as the winner after review. While talking about the result, on his post-race interview, the RFK Racing driver admitted that he was speechless and down due to the loss.

Chris Buescher is proud of the team despite the pain

Despite the loss there are few things to be proud of for Chris Buescher and his RFK crew. They have finally got the edge they have been seeking for a long time and was able to get upfront with the help of a good strategy. While talking about it Buescher also admitted that the reason for his loss might be giving a little too much space at the end of for Larson.

Really proud of that and had some good strategy to get us back up there. Tried to cover what I could and gave him half a lane too much, I suppose. But good, hard race right there down to the line. Yeah, just that hurts.

RFK Racing seems to have found the balance of the new Ford they have been working on for a long-time and would be hoping that this P2 finish would give them the confidence to fight for more wins in the coming days. If the form continues it won’t take long for Chris Buescher to get back to victory lane.
