Joe Gibbs Racing veteran Christopher Bell is having a tough 2026 season. He has everything on his side to be a championship contender this season, as the No:20 car has been fast and the crew has hit the mark in terms of execution. But they have failed to convert the consistency to wins, with luck not being on their side.

While leading the race on lap 68 of the race, the TRD driver was collected by Todd Gilliland, who spun out. If he had lifted like his No:11 TRD teammate Denny Hamlin he could have avoided the wreck. But his decision to take the gap at the bottom backfired, as he got clipped. He was really disappointed with the results, as they ended the day with just one point despite having the really good car.

It was another one of those 50-50 calls. Me and Denny were side by side and I saw him (Gilliland) spinning and Denny lifted, and I thought that I could shoot the gap on the bottom. And I thought I did shoot the gap on the bottom but I got clipped.

The JGR drivers’ wife Morgan Bell was also disappointed with the result, and she shared her feelings with story on Instagram. She admitted to being heartbroken about the crash and shared their hope that they will be able to turn their season back in the coming weeks. Christopher Bell hasn’t been to the victory lane for 18 race weeks.

At some point the year has to turn around, right? Heartbroken

I mean, it’s a bummer, but I’m just so thankful. I’m thankful that I get to drive really fast racecars. Thankful that I got to lead laps today. Thankful that I get to carry the green colors and drive for Joe Gibbs Racing. Yeah, I was a couple feet, a couple feet away from having a great day. But yeah, it’s going to turn around at some point.

Chritopher Bell said.

Later in a separate conversation, the star driver shared his thoughts on being 13 in the championship table with 291 points to his name, 235 points behind the leader Tyler Reddick. He is focused on getting maximum points as he can before the end of the regular season and set himself in a good spot for the playoffs once the points resets.

I was worried about points about eight weeks ago. But its gonna be what it’s gonna be and they’ll reset with ten to go. We gotta finish as high as we can up until that point.

Christopher Bell asserted at Texas.

The No:20 needs to continue delivering fast cars and inspire their star driver to perform better. JGR as a whole need to step up their game, to make sure Bell and Chase Briscoe also get on the victory lane like teammates Denny Hamlin and Ty Gibbs.
