But unfortunately the rookie is having one of the worst years of his career, as he is currently placed 34 in the table with just 162 points on his name with a P14 at COTA being his best finish.
It was a brutal reality check for the rookie, as the premier division was much tougher than he anticipated. On his latest appearance on the Dale Jr. Download podcast, the youngster admitted that the Cup Series is a whole different ballgame than he expected and admitted that it everyone involved in the top division in the ten times better that the lower series.
Yeah, it’s a whole different ballgame… I knew coming into this year that it was going to be tough, especially after the just even the three races I did last year. I was like, “Okay, yeah, this stuff’s no joke.” And um yeah, I mean, it’s just a whole different level. The teams, the drivers, um everything is times 10 and just way more challenging. So, um I love it honestly.
Connor Zilisch told Dale Earnhardt Jr.
Further talking about the point, Connor Zilisch admitted that there have been times in the 2026 season where he hated being inside the car, owing to his poor performances. But at the same time, he cherishes the challenge and how the rest of the garage push him to be the better version of a racer he can be.
Sometimes I hate my life inside of the car and you know just want to get out and be done with the race because we’re running so bad, I just I love the challenge of it. I appreciate how good all the teams and drivers are. Um and it just makes me better as a driver and pushes me as a as a human to want to be better.

Connor Zilisch recalled his infamous victory lane fall
In a separate podcast, Connor Zilisch recently talked about his infamous victory lane fall from 2025 after second division race win at Watkins Glen. He recalled how it was his most viral moment ever and how his parents had wile reactions to the incident.

I was knocked out. I don’t remember any of this. This is the most viral I’ll ever be… When I got to the infield care center. My dad was in there with me, and I fall, and my mom is like ‘Oh my God, he’s dead, he’s dead’ My dad’s like, ‘Nah, he’s fine.’

The racer admitted that he didn’t knew he was knocked out for 20-30 seconds after the fall and only realized how embarrassing the situation was after watching the video in the infield care centre. It was a wild moment he might never forget.
I’m literally knocked out on the floor. I get back to the infield care center, and my dad’s like, ‘Dude, you were knocked out.’ I was like, I’ wasn’t knocked out.’ He’s like, ‘Oh, you want to see?’ I was like, ‘Yeah, show me the video wasn’t that bad.’ He shows me the video, and I was like, ‘Holy s**t, I was knocked out.’
Connor Zilisch added.
The comments from the racer shows he is now seeing the funny side of the incident and doesn’t want to part of the situation again. It would be interesting to see if the racer would ever celebrate a win again on the victory lane like he did after the fall, as he had since changed where he stands on the car on the victory lane.
