Spire Motorsports’ Carson Hocevar proved yet again why he is considered by many as the future superstar of the sport in the 2026 Meta Gala. He became the first NASCAR driver since Jeff Gordon almost two decades ago to attend A-list celebrity event. The youngster was able to make his mark with his distinctive fashion and being himself before the microphone.

But not everyone were fans of the Gala attendance, as some traditionalist fans criticised the racer via social media, especially in Facebook. Hall of Famer Dale Eranhardt Jr. addressed these critics on his podcast and urged them to let the youngster be himself. He highlighted how the spire driver represented himself well in the red carpet and made him proud.

Let the guy do what he wants to do and let him go promote and be where he wants to be. He had a lot of fun. I watched his interview. He did a great job, represented himself well, spoke well, knew what the hell he was wearing. Seemed to have a real understanding of why he was there and what he was supposed to accomplish. I was really proud of Hocevar.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. said via his podcast.

No one could have blamed Carson Hocevar if he made some slip up in the red carpet as it was not a position he has ever been in before or some active driver in the garage has experienced before. The youngster did a good job despite being a fish out of water and that shows he is ready to take the NASCAR superstardom to the next level.

You throw these guys into those scenarios where they’re totally a fish out of water and sometimes it doesn’t go that well. But I think he did a good job. So that was good.

Listen, I think that was fantastic. And the reason why, I would have never expected a driver to been invited to that. I don’t even know what it is. I think it’s a little bit of a celebration of fashion and art. Doesn’t matter…We need drivers, not all of them, we don’t need them all going to this thing, we need one.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. said.

NASCAR needs their drivers to be in unusual spaces, representing the sport and attracting a new set of fans. In his prime, Dale Jr. was the driver that represented the sport in many such events. It’s a real opportunity and privilege to give back to the sport that gave them a career.

We need one over here, one over there and one doing this thing and one doing that thing. We need our drivers in these unusual spaces, connecting with people that aren’t connected to our sport… Doing those kinds of things are a real privilege and a real opportunity to get out and not so much promote yourself, but really introduce the sport to a new audience. It adds a little credibility to the sport where it had none. So, it’s good.

Dale Eranhardt Jr. added.

The comments from the HOF are on point about CarsonHocevar and shows how the Spire driver is slowly establishing himself in NASCAR. It would be interesting to see how everything is going playout for the racer in the coming days.
