The debates of the NASCAR playoffs have intensified in the recent months, after the sanctioning body admitted they are open to making changes to the playoffs format. While some conversation regarding the format is fair, most seems to be absurd, with Joey Logano being the target of the most critics. Hall of Famer Dale Earnhardt Jr. isn’t a big fan of some these comments.

Joey Logano won three championships under the format, thanks to his clutch runs and the critics of the format discredit the Ford driver, by using him as an example for issues with the format. Dale Earnhardt Jr. doesn’t like this disrespect and asserted that the format doesn’t benefit anyone in particular. He also believes Logano, and his crew chief Paul Wolfie deserves credit for the win.

This format doesn’t favor or lend itself to anybody… This format is more about being great on a singular day, the rest of the season be damned. He [Logano] happened to have the good car that day at Phoenix. … You gotta credit Joey’s crew chief…

Dale Earnhardt Jr. said on Dale Jr. Download.

The best defense in favor of Logano not being someone that is getting favored by the format is the 2024 season. He got eliminated in R-12 before getting back to R-8, due to Alex Bowman getting eliminated for his car being underweight. He went onto win races in the penultimate round to make it into the finale and won the Phoenix race just like he did in 2023.

Logano was out at the ROVAL…So, you can’t tell me that hey, he’s the one who knows how to do this better than anybody else, because he was out if the 48 doesn’t fail tech for being five pounds light or whatever the hell it was because he run over the curb and threw the (expletive) off his car.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. added.

Furthermore, the ex-Xfinity Series champion pointed out that Joey Logano deserves the credit for being a champion driver who delivers results when it demanded the most from him, taking advantage of his crew chief’s strategy. The JRM owner though doesn’t like the current format, hates the champion being disrespected despite everyone playing by the same rules.

Dude, Joey Logano is a (expletive) champion, he is a badass race car driver. You can’t tell me there’s a strategy [to this]. Nobody is going to Vegas thinking, ‘We’re going to run 14th all day and then f*ck ’em on fuel mileage.’

Dale Earnhardt Jr. asserted.

Joey Logano is pissed off about being used as an example for issues with playoffs

Recently Joey Logano spoke out about the drama over his championship wins and the disrespect towards some set of fans from the racing community. He admitted that the criticism pisses him off, considering he won the title fighting like everyone and is open to a change to the format as he knows he can win the title.

Yeah, it pisses me off. Absolutely. Ticks me off all the time. But I’m also like fine, change it. We’ll go win it again. That’s got to be your attitude with it, right?

Joey Logano said.

The comments from the veteran drivers shows the hate towards him is getting a little too much and it not only irritating him, but also giving him the motivation to perform better, in order to boring more Bill France Cups back home. It would be interesting to see how the No:22 team is going to perform once the new format is adopted.
