The NASCAR Cup Series race at Chicago city was a wild event and one of the significant incidents of the day featured three times Champion Joey Logano and Trackhouse Racing’s Ross Chastain. The duo was involved in an aggressive duel that made the former demand actions from the sanctioning body. Joe Gibbs Racing veteran Denny Hamlin has assessed the situation and shared his verdict.
On the last stage of the race, Joey Logano found himself racing behind Ross Chastain in an aggressive restart. The No:1 Chevy driver got spun out, due to a move made by Austin Cindric. Chastain thought it was the No:22 Ford that dumped him and retaliated by wrecking him in the next corner, with four more cars, including Ricky Stenhouse Jr., being victims of the incident.
Talking about it on the latest episode of the Actions Detrimental podcast, Denny Hamlin declared that Chastain rage-wrecked Logano, alongside multiple other cars who were innocent bystanders. He the recalled how he was penalized by NASCAR for admitting intentionally wrecking someone and how the Trackhouse driver deserves something similar as the Team Penske driver explained.
Two of my favorites. (Logano) is right, what do you want me to say? Chastain rage-wrecked other cars that didn’t have anything to do with it… We know what happened when, on this podcast, I said that I wrecked somebody on purpose, or took them with me. I don’t like it. I don’t agree with it.
Denny Hamlin said via Actions Detrimental.
The No:11 Toyota driver hates the fact that the retaliation from Chastain wiping out multiple cars. Though the drivers deserve to make aggressive moves on drivers that has wronged them, that doesn’t give the drivers free pass to take out the rest of the field. Revenge should be respectful to the other rivals during races.
In my opinion, Ross has done this to other cars, where he’s gone in and just wiped out like, three or four of them. Do you believe that in that next corner you deserve to get just cleaned out under his rule of karma? Would say yes? Yeah, sure, I do. I deserve to get wiped out…Unfortunately, you can’t involve other people that have nothing to do with it.

Further talking about the same point, Denny Hamlin asserted that Ross Chastain like every other driver should have realized in road courses, especially restarts, the wreck can come from multiple cars back and not the driver that close to him. So, before rage-wrecking the rivals, the victim should get the right information on who was the aggressor.

Not understanding where that hit came from, especially on a road course — you’ve got to know there’s 10 cars in a — you saw it was a restart. This wreck could’ve came from eight cars back. You just don’t know. You’ve got to get the information before you rage-wreck. .. I agree with everything Joey said. … I couldn’t tell you where (Ross’) mind’s at in that moment.

The JGR driver seems to want NASCAR to listen to their champion and fine the Trackhouse Chevy driver, though he knows most probably the sanctioning body isn’t going to be consistent. Denny Hamlin’s old beef with Chastain might have inspired him to make these demand as well. It would be interesting to see how everything is going to playout for the star drivers in the coming races.
