Richard Childress Racing made a big announcement ahead of the NASCAR Cup race at Talladega. The No:8 Chevy crew chief Jim Pohlman was replaced by Andy Street, as the team decided to pull the plug on veteran official that was signed to save the team from the winless streak that is now sits at 100+ races.
Joe Gibbs Racing veteran Denny Hamlin on his podcast shared his thoughts on another Kyle Busch crew chief losing his job. He highlighted how Richard Childress’s team is non-apologetic when it comes to replacing senior team officials that under delivers. But this hasn’t earned the success they are targeting.
Oh shit, really? Has Andy Street been on that car? I feel like these guys are on and off. This has got to be their 12th or 15th crew chief. RCR, they make lots of crew chief changes.
Denny Hamlin said on his podcast.
He pointed out that Kyle Busch’s team was put under new management because the team desperately needed a change and replacing the crew chief was easier call. Denny Hamlin also took shot at his ex-teammate who called him out last week for supposedly “bad mouthing” him on his podcast.
Got to do something. So, might as well bite the bullet, I guess… As Kyle Busch would say, ‘I don’t know what the hell I’m talking about’. Because I just don’t know. I don’t know the inner-workings of their team, or where the weak spots are or anything like that.
Denny Hamlin added via Actions Detrimental.
Further talking about the point, he highlighted that this might be the change RCR desperately wanted to see as they are searching for that moment that could get them back on track. The veteran wants his ex-teammate to get back to winning ways, as he knows a winless Busch is bad for the sport as a whole.
We’ve said they’re searching and they’re going to search on top of the pit box right now. And that might be it. I don’t know.
Denny Hamlin asserted.
Kevin Harvick declares the Kyle Busch crew chief sacking was overdue
At the same time, former Cup champion Kevin Harvick was very direct about the crew chief change. He thinks the sacking was overdue, considering the radio drama from Bristol went over the limit and proved the duo are not compatible. A team won’t be balanced when the two personal that supposed to lead the team have the same aggressive character.

It was just a really, really, really combative scenario that you had with those two personalities of Jim Pohlman and Kyle Busch in the car. If I had a crew chief that talked about me like that, I would fire his ass quickly because that is unacceptable. They can be mad at me, but talking like they talked on that channel two after Bristol that week, that was unacceptable. That is the wrong guy.
Kevin Harvick said.
The comments from the 2014 Cup Series champion are on point and it might be something most in the community agrees with as well. Kyle Busch team needed a change and the crew chief might be the one that would finally get the team back on track.
