Three times Daytona 500 winner Denny Hamlin is in impressive form coming into this weekend’s race at Bristol Motor Speedway. He secured back-to-back race wins at Martinsville and Darlington, as he is set to start P4 in Sunday’s race at Bristol Motor Speedway, with a third straight win as his primary goal.
Denny Hamlin’s win last weekend earned him the title of the wingiest racer in the history of Joe Gibbs Racing, with 56 wins. He currently shares the record with his former two Cup championship winning teammate Kyle Busch. Woth 33 wins to his name, Tony Stewart is the only other racer that has wins close to the historic duo.
Ahead of the race weekend, Denny Hamlin was asked about the possibility of making this record to himself. He admitted that a potential 57th win is going to be a special moment for him to be part of the history of one of the biggest organizations in NASCAR since its inception. Hamlin also admitted that being the longest serving driver for the team increases his odds.
It certainly is special. It’s such a historic organization with the championship drivers and whatnot. I’ve been there longer than anyone else so that increases my odds.
Denny Hamlin said via the RACER.
Further talking about the point, Denny Hamlin highlighted how being part of the history books for a team that has fielded cars for many teams such as Tony Stewart, Joey Logano, Martin Truex Jr., Bobby Labonte, Matt Kenseth and Carl Edwards. This factor makes this record something Hamlin wants to see in his resume. Adding a Cup title, he is looking for over two decades, will make it extra special.
There’s just been a lot of greats that have run through there, so it’s certainly a title I would like to have.
Denny Hamlin added.
Denny Hamlin explains how tough it’s to secure three consecutive wins
In the same interview Denny Hamlin was asked about the potential of the JGR racer securing a third straight win at Bristol. He admitted that it is one of the hardest things to do and everything should align perfectly for him, like it did last week at Darlington for him to produce a similar streak like his teammate Christopher Bell has already done this year.

We don’t go into the season saying, all right, I want to win, at some point, three in a row this year. That is such a hard thing to do because all of the stars have to align perfectly, as we saw last week.
Denny Hamlin said.
He pointed out that he would love to secure the threepeat if things go perfectly as it did last week. Hamlin believes just like some of greats of the sport, he wanted to have the back-to-back win record in his name.
They did align perfectly for us (at Darlington). It would be fantastic; some of the greats of our sport have done it, and I haven’t, and it just tells you how difficult it is.
Denny Hamlin added.
The comments from the veteran Toyota driver shows he understand how tough it’s going to be for his team to keep the streak alive, but at the same time it is possible to do it. It would be interesting to see how everything is going to playout for the veteran in the coming races.
