The NASCAR Cup Series race on Sunday at Las Vegas Motor Speedway witnessed some wild and emotional moments. One of the standout moments was the animated confrontation involving ex-teammates Daniel Suarez and Ross Chastain. Race winner Denny Hamlin had rational take on the incident.
The duo made contact with each other multiple times in the race, including two significant incidents on stage two and on the final stage with just four laps left. After the parking the car, the No:7 Spire Motorsports driver Suarez went to talk with his ex-Trackhouse Racing teammate Chastain. Their confrontation soon turned animated.
The No:1 Chevy driver called out the Mexican American and even shoved him before they were separated. Talking about the situation on the latest episode of the Actions Detrimental podcast, Denny Hamlin admitted that the fight between the two have been brewing for some time. Their relationship wasn’t as positive as it was seen from the outside.
I think it’s been brewing. I think it’s been brewing. You see on X, there’s comments that get thrown around. I feel like it’s been brewing…I always thought from the exterior that their relationship was good. They do a lot of content stuff together, but you just never know.
Denny Hamlin said via Actions Detrimental.
In the same conversation, the JGR veteran highlighted how the beef between the duo might be result of Daniel Suarez getting ousted from Trackhouse. With the team signing Shane van Gisbergen and Conor Zilisch, the dight for the last seat was between him and Ross Chastain. It was never a fair fight though, as the Florida racer always had the upper hand.
I just don’t think it was ever a question about Chastain losing his seat. Chastain outperformed him more times than not.
Denny Hamlin asserted.
Denny Hamlin expects Daniel Suarez to win in a potential fight with Ross Chastain
In the same podcast, the Joe Gibbs Racing driver talked about what would have happened if a fight had broken out between the duo. He compared the strength and size difference between the two, pointing out that Chastain will have the upper hand in the start.

I like Ross’ chances of connection because he seems like he’s very good at that. But I think just eventually strength comes in.
Denny Hamlin said.
But once the fight progresses, Suarez’s will have the advantage as though the size difference is small there is significant strength difference between the two. Hamlin seems to believe the Spire driver might knockout Chastain in a fight.
Yeah, Suárez might catch one in the chin, but if it doesn’t hobble him, I think he gets pummeled because of the size difference. Listen, there’s not a giant-sized difference, but I think there’s more likely a strength difference.
Denny Hamlin added.
At the moment a potential fight between the duo is a long-shot, but if they continue to have aggressive moments like Vegas in the coming weekends a full-pledged beef will break out. It would be interesting to see how everything is going to playout for Chastain-Suarez duo in the coming years.
