The nightmares of the 2025 season aren’t going anywhere for Kyle Busch and ins only getting intensified after Richmond race. He was causing a 12-car wreck, running too aggressive despite not wanting to, while his fellow RCR driver Austin Dillon dominated to win the race. This was a big concern for his ex-JGR teammate Denny Hamlin.
On the Actions Detrimental podcast, Denny Hamlin shared his thoughts on the performance Kyle Busch, who raced 15 years with his at Joe Gibbs Racing, at Richmond. He admitted that he thought of texting his friend, after seeing him getting involved in incidents, one of which where he was the victim of a door slamming.
Speaking of Kyle Busch, I was going to text him, ‘Are you okay?’ It was so weird, we were under caution and I felt, BOOM, I’m like, ‘What the hell?’ I guess he was warming his tires up and just f***ing door slammed the s**t out of me….

The No:11 Toyota driver explained how the two times Cup Series champion was racing unhinged, hitting everyone and everything even under caution. This alongside the nig wreck, that ruined the race for the likes of Chase Elliott, Denny Hamlin wanted to know if there was something that was really affecting the veteran racer.
He is hitting everything! He ran into us under caution. Unintentional, obviously. Then, down the backstretch, we didn’t really talk about the big wreck, but I don’t know. … Well, I wanted to be genuine about it, like ‘Hey bud, how you doing? Doing okay?’
Denny Hamlin added.
Kyle Busch was a wrecking ball at Richmond
The reminder of the NASCAR garage has the same feelings about the veteran driver and many of the racing experts have called him out. Senior NASCAR journalist and podcaster Jeff Gluck was one of the many highlighted how bad the No:8 car was running in the day.

From the start of the weekend, where he had to take the backup car which wasn’t fielded with balance he wanted, things were going wrong for the Chevy driver. This alongside his decision-making mistakes, made him a wrecking ball, hitting people, who were just poor bystanders, and ruining the races for them.
He started off the race and he was immediately like, ‘You guys got this thing wrong and it feels broken and it wants to spin out.’…And then he was like a wrecking ball. I mean he was hitting people left and right. He took out both Chases, because he took out (Chase) Briscoe, and then in the same wreck he took out Chase Elliott.
Jeff Gluck said.
The contrast of performance from Kyle Busch and Austin Dillon shows how much the performance has dropped for the veteran with RCR. He hasn’t won a race since 2023, on the other hand despite being the less consistent driver Austin Dillon has grinded out two wins.
This shows RCR is fielding cars good enough to win races in some races. The mistakes from either the driver or the crew cost them opportunities to win in those events. Unlike Busch, who makes less mistakes, Dillon has able to peak at the right moment and produce a clutch moment. Unfortunately, the No:8 team is still stuck with average finishes.
