The 2024 NASCAR season has been one of mixed emotions for 2020 Cup champion Chase Elliott. The Hendrick Motorsports driver redeemed himself this year by winning a race and securing a spot in the playoffs, but he hasn’t been among the best drivers of the season as he used to be, inviting doubts about his championship hopes.
In the recent episode of the Teardown Podcast, senior NASCAR Journalists and insider’s Jeff Gluck and Jordan Bianchi talked about the same. During the discussion Gluck pointed out that Chase Elliott has been consistent enough to consider him as among the front runners. But he needs secure a convincing win the playoffs to assert himself in those conversations.
He went on to explain that, though Elliott is a threat to make into the championship-4, he isn’t the biggest one. There are the likes of Kyle Larson and Denny Hamlin, who are in much better format and have proved throughout the season they can get it done.
Kyle Petty gives a sarcastic take of Chase Elliott’s championship chances
Chase Elliott has the best average finish among his peers with a 11.3, and the Georgian drivers’ fans have been boasting about it for so long. One fan even tagged ex-racer Kyle Petty and asked for his opinion on it. Petty responded with a sarcastic dig reminding them, Elliott has just a 4 points advantage to the R-12 cutline.
That and $5.89 will get you a cup of coffee and +4 in the Playoffs… but not much more. https://t.co/ow4AEiO6gD

The former driver seems to be asserting that though the No:9 HMS team has been consistent throughout the season, they haven’t yet produced performance that warrants championship. It will be interesting to see how Elliott will perform in the last 6 races of the season.
