NASCAR veteran Kyle Busch is going through a difficult time in the sport. The former Cup Series champion is finding it hard to get back to Victory Lane. His last Cup win came all the way back in 2023 at Illinois. The Richmond Raceway weekend was another disappointing round for Busch. Now, NASCAR insider Jeff Gluck has slammed the RCR driver.
The Richmond Raceway weekend was a good one for RCR. Austin Dillon took a shock victory, a redemption for his previous fiasco on-track. Dillon not only qualified for the Playoffs but became the first repeat winner of the race in 15 years. On the other hand, Kyle Busch had a disastrous run as he triggered a 12-car wreck on Saturday. Moreover, the RCR veteran was constantly complaining on the team radio.
Jeff Gluck pointed out that while Richard Childress Racing had an impressive weekend at Richmond, Kyle Busch’s struggles remained a mystery. The NASCAR insider pointed out that from the start, Busch seemed to have no confidence and blamed his team for a difficult to drive car.
Kyle Busch, we talked about it’s a great night for RCR, Kyle Busch had like, I don’t know what was going on. You guys got this thing wrong and it feels broken and it wants to spin out.
Jeff Gluck said on Teardown podcast.
Gluck labeled the RCR veteran as a ‘wrecking ball’ on-track. Kyle Busch could not avoid trouble and managed to hit a handful of cars over the course of the race. In one wreck, Busch managed to collide with both Chase Elliot and Chase Briscoe. Such reckless driving by a driver like Kyle Busch is really not acceptable
And then he was like a wrecking ball. I mean he was hitting people left and right. He took out both Chases, because he took out (Chase) Briscoe, and then in the same wreck he took out Chase Elliott.
Jeff Gluck added.
Kyle Busch overshadowed by Austin Dillon in Richmond
Kyle Busch is the lead driver at RCR. The former Cup champion is supposed to be the car racing at the front of the field, and setting an example for his teammates. However, Busch seems to be no longer in his prime, and is regularly losing out to his much-younger teammates such as Austin Dillon. While Dillon has won two races in the past two seasons, the 40-year-old’s tally stands at zero, certainly a major embarrassment.

Jordan Bianchi joined in Jeff Gluck’s remarks on Kyle Busch. He pointed out that a major factor for RCR is that Busch has failed to win a single race in the past two seasons, while Dillon has secured two. This is not something that one would expect, considering the 40-year-old’s experience in the Cup Series. Now, it’s Austin Dillon that would be the sole RCR car making it to the Playoffs unless Busch manages to win the last regular season race.
Can we just really quick? How about the fact that Austin Dillon has two wins over the last basically two seasons and Kyle Busch has zero?
Jordan Bianchi added.
Certainly, fans are surprised to see Kyle Busch in such a situation. The RCR driver is going through a major slump in his career and the results prove that. It is unfortunate to see a veteran like Busch in such a situation but NASCAR is a brutal sport. A driver does not get second chances. If this trend continues, critics might start demanding the former Cup champion to make room for younger talent in the field.
