Desperation always gets either the best or worst out of a man. Richard Childress Racing’s Austin Dillon was among the most desperate drivers on the field as he came into the race 32 in the championship table with no single solid performance this season. But he went onto win the race under controversial circumstances, when RCR finally gave him a car capable of winning in 2024.

The Cook Out 400 was sent to overtime after a late wreck and Joey Logano lined up upfront alongside Austin Dillon with Denny Hamlin behind him. The Penske driver got a good restart and was able to hold the No:8 RCR Chevy behind him till the final lap where, Dillon blatantly wrecked the No:22 and soon after the No:11 to win the race. Logano was furious on his post-race interview.

It’s chickenshit, no doubt about it. He’s four-car links back, not even close. Then he wrecks the 11… And then he’s going to go up there and thank God and praise everything with his baby. It’s a bunch of BS, it’s not even close. I mean, I get it, bump-and-run, I get it. I didn’t back up the corner at all, he came in there and just drove through me. It’s ridiculous that’s the way we race. Unbelievable.

The two times cup champion didn’t stop there. He pointed out that Austin Dillon was a piece of cr*p for pulling of such a stunt late in the race knowing that he wont make it in the corner and later wrecking Hamlin.

I get bump-and-runs, I do that, I would expect it. But from four-car links back he was never going to make the corner. And then he wrecks the 11 to go with it. What a piece of crap.

Payback is coming for Austin Dillon

While Austin Dillon can get away without a penalty for the double wrecking at Richmond, there is now way he can now race relaxed with Joey Logano around him. The veteran Ford driver is known for never holding back when it comes to payback and that’s one aspect of his race that made him one of the most hated drivers.

When asked about what he would do in the future when racing Austin Dillon, Joey Logano had a one small answer “Wait and see.” Everyone in the NASCAR garage knowns this is nothing less than a threat and fans would be waiting to see what would happen.

Logano isn’t the only driver that that has come out criticising Dillon. Many in the racing community are furious with him, while there are a few who sided with him as well. Fans are eager to see if NASCAR draw a line over aggression on the final laps to avoid such blatant incidents in the future.
