The Round of 16 of the 2024 Cup playoffs was expected to feature some wild moments and it hasn’t disappointed the NASCAR nation in this regard so far. The plate race at Atlanta was crazy and this Sunday at Watkins Glen the race featured multiple wrecks, including one on lap one that took out the reigning champion.

The most dramatic wreck of the day though involved Joey Logano, Brad Keselowski and William Byron. On the 83ed lap the No:22 Ford forced a three wide situation that caused a wreck in which the No:24 Chevy’s front tire ended inside the No:6 Ford. While talking about the incident, The Penske driver blamed the track and it not being clean enough for it.

I mean really, I’m not making any excuses, I needed to check up more but the track’s a complete disaster. They need to clean it up and I got pushed maybe four-wide at one point, so tried to give room there and got up in the marbles. When I went to turn back to the left, it’s got crap all over the tires and I got into him.
Joey Logano said after the race.

He didn’t fully absolve himself from any fault as he asserted that he also has some fault in the incident that ruined races for the RFK and HMS drivers. But he insists that the track also has a fair share of blame to take considering the he urged many times to clean the marbles on track before the restarts.

It’s still on me, right, but at the same time, clean the damn track. I brought it up at least two to three times about cleaning the track before the restarts, but it just didn’t happen.

William Byron marked a nightmare weekend because of the Joey Logano wreck

Byron come into the weekend with the hopes of winning the race, but the late wreck with Logano ended in him finishing P34. He isn’t sure exactly what causes the wreck involving the three, but admitted that if it was not for the stage points, he has amassed earlier, his day would have much worse that its already is.

I am not sure exactly what happened, but I was trying to get to the outside of the No. 22 and the No. 6 kind of hooked back to the left. Glad we got some points in Stage two, that was helpful. We just have to go to Bristol and have a good weekend. This was just kind of a nightmare weekend.
William Byron said.

The young HMS driver was able salvage some points from the race and is in an okay position going into the last race of the R-16. It will be interesting to see how the last race and remaining of the race’s playout for him.
