Joey Logano is back at Richmond Raceway for the first time since the 2024 regular season race, where he was involved in one of the worse race-finishes of his career. Richard Childress Racing’s Austin Dillon blatantly wrecked the Team Penske driver and Denny Hamlin to win the race, sending the whole racing community inti a frenzy.
The wreck was too much for NASCAR to overlook, as they stripped Austin Dillon of his playoff spot while letting him keep the win. On his return to the track Joey Logano addressed the drama and admitted that he is still mad over the incident after watching the reply. He is looking to move forward from it this week with sweet redemption.
I did. It made me mad again. The result didn’t change, unfortunately. but yeah, obviously, I have to rewatch things to prepare and things like that. But yeah, it’s a year ago, so you’ve got to move forward here at some point. So, just got to go get sweet redemption, right? Go out there and win the race that we had won.

Further talking about the situation, the three times Cup Series champion addressed how NASCAR enforces certain rules and how the Richmond wreck was one of the few situations where the sanctioning body was put in a spot that required enforcement. It was one decision that set precedent for the future.
I’m not a big person that reads the rule book. I just look at how rules are enforced. Well, if rules are enforced, then that’s a real rule. And NASCAR gets put in the spot occasionally to where they’re forced to enforce a rule, and depending on how they do that will set the tone for the future, whether that’s looking at restarts or looking at things like that.
Joey Logano added.
Joey Logano explained what drivers wants from NASCAR
In the same conversation, Joey Logano pointed out that the only thing drivers’ needs from NASCAR is the proper and consistent enforcement of the rules. Things went beyond the limit last year at the track and NASCAR made the right call as they should.

I think all of us drivers, all we want is consistency, right? And obviously that was pretty far last year, right? Both moves were — not just the first one but the second one. So, I think every scenario is probably a little bit different.
Joey Logano said.
It was actually so blatant, that NASCAR had an easy decision on their hand and if they had decided not to penalize all hell would have broke lose. It helped the sport to establish some limits that needs to be followed while desperately racing for wins.
That one was pretty extreme, so probably pretty easy for them to make a call, but everybody, sometimes you wonder where the limits are, but you’ve also got to ask yourself, what’s your limits, right? What are you willing to do as a human in the race cars as well?
Joey Logano asserted.
While Logano got what he expected with the penalty last year, his expectation of having sweet redemption isn’t seem to be possible option at the moment. At Sunday he will have start the race at P38, after a wreck in practice session caused massive damage to the No:22 Mustang, running his qualifying and putting a massive job on the crew shoulders before the race.
