The Cook 400 had a controversial ending to the race. Austin Dillon secured his spot in the playoffs by taking out Joey Logano and Denny Hamlin before the encroaching finish line. While the RCR crew burst out in happiness, the Penske driver finished 19th after starting the final lap as the leader. This caused him to express his anger in front of the fans and Dillon’s family by revving up his engine on the pit road.

Joey Logano has won a single race this season but has been on the fringes of adding another win to his tally. The two-time Cup Series champion finished runners-up at his first encounter with the track this year and aimed to finish one higher last weekend. However, despite being in the prime position to win the race heading into the final lap, he was tackled by Austin Dillon allowing the latter to take up the victory.

Witnessing the win taken away from him on the final corner, he was left frustrated and hurled anger-charged messages towards the RCR driver. Subsequently, he went into the pit road post-race and did a burnout in front of the RCR crew and his rival’s family which the onboard footage later revealed.

The No.22 car was dangerously close to his nemesis’ family. This disappointed the No.3 racer as things could have gone terribly if a few factors were out of control. However, fans rushed in to criticize race management as pit roads are meant to have restricted entry until the cars have come down to a halt.

Bubba Wallace’s spotter laments Joey Logano’s post-race antics

While fans took both stances, spotters on the ground conveyed a different story. Bubba Wallace‘s spotter, Freddie Kraft, has witnessed multiple racing incidents and questionable antics by drivers and reckoned the Penske driver’s actions had crossed the boundaries.

The co-host of the Door Bumper Clear podcast lashed out at crews and closed ones of drivers for traversing in the pit road. However, he condemned the former Cup Series champion’s actions and deemed them to be reckless.

Move Victory Lane back where it belongs and that many people won’t be trying to cross pit road. But it’s still no excuse for what happened. Cannot be that reckless.

Despite such outrage, Denny Hamlin explained that NASCAR would not penalize the No.22 Ford for its actions. Thus, stringent rules need to be applied for personnel to enter into the pit road post-race and drivers should be briefed about the consequences that they might face if not obeyed.
