The NASCAR Cup garage it at the Sonoma Raceway for yet another road course race of the 2025 season. Trackhouse Racing’s No:88 Chevy driver Shane van Gisbergen is most inform driver going into the weekend, as he won two races this year, in Mexico City and last week at Chicago Street. 2014 Cup winner Kevin Harvick doesn’t see the veteran stopping the dominant streak of race wins this week as well.

On the latest episode of the Happy Hour podcast he hosts for Fox Sports, Kevin Harvick asserted that he is expecting another disappointing day for most of the front runners in the community with Shane van Gisbergen getting in the victory lane again. It will mark the third win of the year for the Kiwi, killing hopes of the road course specialist in the midfield.

I’ll take SVG… Somebody has to take him.

Kevin Harvick said via Happy Hour podcast.

The co-hosts of the show, Mamba Smith isn’t going for any of the most obvious choices based on recent performance. He is expecting the 2025 Daytona 500 winner William Byron to get back on the victory lane for the first time since race day one. Smith expect the No:24 driver to be locked in owing to his recent struggles.

I’m gonna go with William Byron. I feel like he probably feels some type of way after this weekend [in Chicago]. A bad type of way, like, I’m really mad at myself. There’s something about when you mess up yourself, you just lock in a little bit harder, and I think he’s going to do that.

Mamba Smith said.

Kevin Harvick addressed his co-hosts prediction and asserted that the Hendrick Motorsports Chevy driver has the capability to secure the race win. But the recent stumble in performance, is something the team has tackle sooner than later. It is one of the major issues with Byron since the start of his career, and the summer slump consistently affects his championship aspiration.

They have the capability to do it, but there are definitely some stumbles that have happened consistently now. We’ve got this summer slump — I just do not like this summer slump. Every year.

Kevin Harvick responded.

Kevin Harvick admits Shane van Gisbergen is becoming more dominant in road courses

In the same podcast, Kevin Harvick shared his thoughts on how dominant the three times Supercars champion has been since the start of the start of his career in the elite stock racing divisions. Having more consistency around him regarding the team and the experience he gained the last few seasons has helped him to evolve into a better racer.

I think his experience in the car, knowing what he wants in the car, being more comfortable as a Cup driver, having the same crew chief week-in and week-out, the same team week-in and week-out, has allowed him to evolve in what he likes even better than he had before. I think it’s just making him more dominant on the road courses.

Kevin Harvick said.

The veterans’ comments show how SVG has become one of the best racers in the current garage taking advantage of his superior road course racing skill, which is the product of his Supercars days. But he has a lot of work to do regarding the oval side of racing, where he has less experience that most of the second and third tier NASCAR racers. It would be interesting to see how long it would take him to secure a win in ovals like he does on road courses.
