One of the biggest shocks of the playoff Round of 16 was 2012 Cup champion Brad Keselowski’s failure to make it out of the first playoff round.  His win in the regular season gave RFK Racing the confidence to bounce back, but it wasn’t enough as they failed deliver every other weekend resulting in the current disappointment.

2014 Cup champion Kevin Harvick assessed the veteran racer’s elimination and blamed it on the inconsistency of the team. He asserted that other than the five race mid-regular season moment the team had, they have been just a hit or miss side on the track. It is a trend something that has confused most of the NASCAR nation.

I think we’ve been surprised about this all year. They had that one moment in time, in the middle of the year, around Darlington, the first Darlington, those three, four, five weeks right there, where they had good speed, and then it’s just been really hit or miss from them.

Kevin Harvick said via Happy Hour podcast.

He then talked about how Chris Buescher played the spoiler and secured the odd with at Watkins Glen. Harvick pointed out that not giving similar cars week to week, means they can’t use the momentum on their side. RFK is following the trend of two good races and then our bad races though out the season and it needs to end for them to get better.

Chris Buescher was obviously fast at Watkins Glen last week, and did a phenomenal job to win the race, and able to put it all together, but it’s not been consistent. It’s been very inconsistent, as to what happens on a week-to-week basis. It’s easy to do, with this particular car, but I think Brad’s been deep in the field, the last couple of weeks, just struggling.

Kevin Harvick added.

Brad Keselowski has promised a comeback in 2025

Following the disappointing elimination, Keselowski explained his goals for the future. He understands RFK is a team capable of a championship contender, they just have to be more productive. They have to field faster cars to be competitive and in order to do that should work on being consistency.

Just didn’t have the pace. We wanna run better. We wanna run races and make deep runs in playoffs and be in the final four all those things. Obviously, anything short of that is disappointing. We’ll come back and charge up more for next year.

Brad Keselowski said after Bristol.

The ex-champion seems to be confident about a potential comeback and positioning his team as an elite side before him eventually retiring. It will be interesting to see how the remaining seven races of the year and the upcoming season would playout for the veteran.
